From Sundsvall’s vibrant music scene, Roulette emerged in 1985, quickly captivating audiences with their live performances and gaining local radio support. Their talent shone in 1986, reaching the ‘POP-86’ contest finals and impressing music giants like Tommy Nilsson and Kee Marcello.
Overcoming initial album setbacks, they resurged in 2008 with ‘Better late than never’. Roulettes basist, Hansi Fellbrink, reignited the band’s flame in 2013, paving the way for multiple singles and the celebrated 2019 album, ‘Now!’. Their momentum carried into 2022 with tours, festivals, and chart-topping singles. With a new album on the horizon for 2024, Rocknytt Cruise heralds Roulette as one of Sweden’s AOR elite.
Hailing from Sundsvall, Roulette was formed as early as 1985 and quickly built a following through live performances and support from local radio. In 1986, the band reached the finals in the “POP-86” competition organized by Hard Rock Café. The jury included none other than Tommy Nilsson and Kee Marcello, both of whom were deeply impressed. A few single releases and TV appearances followed, but the planned debut album was pulled by the band’s then-label CBS. Apart from the single “Only the strong” (1990), it wasn’t until 2008 that a sign of life was heard from Roulette in the form of the compilation album “Better late than never”. The edition, limited to 1000 copies, sold out instantly, resulting in a revised edition in 2010.
After many years of playing in other bands, bassist Hansi Fellbrink began writing new material in 2013 with Roulette in mind. A cautious and slow process of re-establishing the band on the melodic rock scene began through the self-financed singles “Secret room” (2015), “Right by your side” (2016), and “The only way” (2017). In 2019, the long-awaited full-length album “Now!” was finally released, gaining widespread attention worldwide and being voted one of the best melodic rock albums of the year by outlets such as Rocknytt.
In 2022, the band embarked on a successful headline tour in Spain and played at several festivals. Among other things, they headlined Scandirock Melodic 2022 in Gothenburg, performed at the All Star Fest in Belgium, and appeared at Sabaton Open Air, where they received high praise for their performance. Moreover, the single “Ready For Friday Night” was voted one of the best singles of 2022 by Rocknytt and PlanetAOR.com.
Last summer, the latest single “Summer Day” was released, accompanied by a delightfully summery and 80s-inspired video. A new album is planned for release in the first half of 2024. Rocknytt Cruise is proud to present Roulette, one of Sweden’s top-tier AOR bands!
